ICAR RC NEH, Umiam celebrated National Milk Day

On this event of national milk day, a number of dairy products produced by various entrepreneurs were promoted and popularized. One of the dairy entrepreneur, Mr. W. Zimik, proprietor of Dansun Agro Products, who is supported by ICAR distributed different dairy products for the popularization of his products.
ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam National Milk Day on 26th November, 2020 commemorating memory of Dr. Verghese Kurein who is the father of Indian white revolution. The National Milk Day is celebrated every year on 26th November on his birthday.
The programme was jointly organized by Division of Livestock Production and Division of Animal Health. During the programme, Shri L.S Shangpliang, Managing Director, East Khasi Hills District Cooperative Milk Union Ltd, Shillong was present as Chief Guest. In his address Shri Shangpliang discussed about the milk production and productivity in the state of Meghalaya and highlighted the new initiatives under Meghalaya milk mission. Dr. K.K Baruah, Director, ICAR NEH emphasized the importance and celebration of national milk day and congratulated the organizers for organizing the programme. Dr. Arnab Sen, Principal Scientist & Head, Division of Animal Health also delivered a special speech on national milk day. Earlier, Dr. G. Kadirvel, Principal Scientist and Organizing Secretary welcomed the chief guest and all other dignitaries. Dr. Sandeep Ghatak, Principal Scientist & Organizing Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. A technical session was also organized after the inaugural program on the theme “Making white colour prosperity through indigenous cattle” for the benefits of participants. During the technical session, Dr. Suresh Kumar D.S., Principal Scientist, ICAR-Central Institute for Research on cattle, Meerut and Dr. G. Kadirvel, Principal Scientist, ICAR, Umiam, made presentations. On this occasion, the clean milk production was demonstrated to the farmers alongwith distribution of kits which was coordinated by Dr Sandeep Ghatak, Dr. Samir Das and Dr. A.A.P Milton. The webinar was moderated by Dr. Sourabh Deori, Co-Organizing Secretary of the programme.
